Story of Rita
Kenya
Rita Brown, 28, is a refugee and an online yoga teacher. She fled Uganda as an orphaned child, after she witnessed the murder of her parents, by an armed group that attacked her village. She was with her sister.
Yoga and meditation classes kept Rita going. She says: "Yoga has changed me spiritually, mentally and emotionally". Rita became one of the first professional refugee yogis in the camp, after she was recruited into the Africa Yoga Project. It is an organisation that aims to empower and educate young people through yoga.
Rita said: "Instead of lamenting, I decided to take the challenges and obstacles as an opportunity and a new beginning in my life."
