Iraqi migration

Over the last decade #migration of Iraqis is a direct result of #conflict and #violence. In 2014, an escalation of violence increased when #ISIS attacked northern Iraq; millions of families were forced to flee their homes.

As of 2019, almost 2 million people remain #displaced inside #Iraq and 250,000 are hosted in neighboring countries. Of the total number of internally displaced, 71 percent have taken refuge in the #Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Those that can make it out of the region travel through #Turkey to attempt to get to #Europe. Like most #asylum seekers entering the EU, the first entry point for Iraqi migrants is #Greece before they move on to another #EU member state.
