Iraqi culture

Iraq is a Muslim nation with #Arabic and #Kurdish as its official languages. The #flag of Iraq is composed of three colours in horizontal sections: red on top, white in the middle, and black on the bottom. The phrase "Allahu Akbar" which means "God is great" appears on the white band of the flag.

There are many values that are honoured in their culture, including generosity and humility. Men commonly hold hands and/or kiss when they greet each other but this is not the case when greeting women. Respect is given to the elderly and women, especially those with children.

After the overthrow of #Saddam#Hussein, an estimated 15,000 pieces were stolen from Iraq’s National Museum. Close cooperation between the Embassy of Iraq in #Washington, D.C. and the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement resulted in the recovery of many of those artifacts. With the return of many of these artifacts to Iraq, #museums showcase the immense history of the country. Some of the museums where you can see such artifacts are the national museum of Iraq and the #Baghdad museum.
